The results of having the government run by and for the big lobbies in league with religious bigots is the source of a coming disaster the system is unable to understand or avoid. (Boom and bust of the national accounts and social accord)

There seems to be a 180 degree turn – now the Delay republicans are the party of Romanism, and rebellion. The intemperate religious fanatics who run the Republican Party how would be for prohibition if possible; anti-abortion is a form of Temperance and Prohibition protestant evangelical, and Roman Catholic and Dixie rebels. .as shown in the right to die case.

(While the Democrats thrash around without a theme except a rehashed New Deal, they need to listen to New Labor and Bill Clinton and really capture the main stream suburbs and Vermont)

Before 1964 Republicans were from Evanston and the outer suburbs and Democrats were from the city especially the Irish south and west side of Chicago. Now there are liberals in the suburbs and conservatives in the working class neighborhoods. FDR put together a Southern strategy, unions, minorities, big city machines, middle class reformers and “progressives”. Reagan put together a winning majority with a Southern strategy, working class cultural conservatives, (including segregationist) and the tradition anti-tax rich, small government republicans.

What is Evanston and Vermont to think of the real power of modern Republicans, Tom Delay? It appears that the Speaker controls the house with an iron hand, also the Senate, the President responds rapidly to Delay, his money machine, his control of K Street (lobbies) his PR machine, and it’s extreme right wing program of “right to life”, Christian Nation, tax cuts and run the government into the ground of debt.

The results of having the government run by and for the big lobbies in league with religious bigots is a coming disaster the system is unable to understand or avoid.

Geo-Greening by Example
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

By doing nothing to lower U.S. oil consumption, we are financing both sides in the war on terrorism and strengthening the worst governments in the world. That is, we are financing the U.S. military with our tax dollars and we are financing the jihadists - and the Saudi, Sudanese and Iranian mosques and charities that support them - through our gasoline purchases. The oil boom is also entrenching the autocrats in Russia and Venezuela, which is becoming Castro's Cuba with oil. By doing nothing to reduce U.S. oil consumption we are also setting up a global competition with China for energy resources, including right on our doorstep in Canada and Venezuela. Don't kid yourself: China's foreign policy today is very simple - holding on to Taiwan and looking for oil.
Finally, by doing nothing to reduce U.S. oil consumption we are only hastening the climate change crisis, and the Bush officials who scoff at the science around this should hang their heads in shame. And it is only going to get worse the longer we do nothing. Wired magazine did an excellent piece in its April issue about hybrid cars, which get 40 to 50 miles to the gallon with very low emissions. One paragraph jumped out at me: "Right now, there are about 800 million cars in active use. By 2050, as cars become ubiquitous in China and India, it'll be 3.25 billion. That increase represents ... an almost unimaginable threat to our environment. Quadruple the cars means quadruple the carbon dioxide emissions - unless cleaner, less gas-hungry vehicles become the norm."
1884 that we learn that one Dr. Samuel D. Burchard, addressing a gathering of the Religious Bureau of the Republican National Committee, a week before the general election, stated,
We are Republicans, and don't propose to leave our party and identify ourselves with the party whose antecedents have been rum, Romanism, and rebellion. We are loyal to our flag.
What Burchard did, by reciting this triplet, was to saddle the Democrats with being on the wrong side of three of the most sensitive issues of the times:
Prohibition --- a controversy which the Women's Christian Temperance Union and others had brought to fever pitch;
Catholicism --- a feared minority of the time (all actions were considered as coming from Rome), and
The Civil War --- which had but twenty years before, been brought to its bloody end, leaving in its wake no end of bitterness on both sides.
