The bubble has burst;
The right wing religious coalition has past its peak. It many affairs of most social groups the extreme people push the limits until the cause falls off a cliff. John Kennedy noticed that there was a competition to be tougher and more extreme during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During the high tech bubble the most extreme promoters got the most press – DOW 30,000 – well the market in Japan was close to 30,000 before the property and stock market there deflated. (It is now about 11,000)
The issue which is deflating the bubble was "Terri Schiavo" case and the attack on the judiciary that followed. With the issue on extreme judges in the senate, Tom Delay’s ethics problems, the supper hype and extreme positions of hard right business networks. Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation for example.
Critically important for such situations is the President’s thinking process. As described by historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., an advisor and supporter (quoting a British military analyst), Kennedy’s approach was "Keep strong…keep cool. Have unlimited patience. Never corner an opponent and always assist him to save…face. Put yourself in his shoes—so as to see things through his eyes. Avoid self-righteousness…" (1999, 11).
The Bush White House is a closed process, limited to a handful of selected advisors who, whatever their skills and knowledge, were selected primarily for their loyalty to the President. Loyalty, secrecy, closed decision-making appear to be the catchwords of the Bush Administration.
